Mysteries of the Metaphysicals – A Poetry Evening

5 September 2025

Book now - limited spaces

The Benedictine monastery of St Augustine’s Abbey, Chilworth near Guildford, invites you to an inspiring Poetry Evening exploring the life, poetry, and spirituality of John Donne and George Herbert. Titled "Mysteries of the Metaphysicals," this special event will be led by Peter Thompson, Dr Jo Russell, and Sheila Longman in the Assisi Room at the monastery on Thursday 25 September 2025 from 7.30pm to 9.15pm.

These poets wrestled with profound questions of faith, love, and eternity, and their words continue to resonate today. John Donne and George Herbert both sought God in the depths of human experience and their poetry reflects a faith that is at once deeply personal and universally relevant.

Tickets are £10 per person, including refreshments, and advance booking is essential as spaces are limited. A booking fee applies.
