The Benedictine monastery of St Augustine’s Abbey in Chilworth near Guildford will host a special evening event on Thursday 16 April 2026,  celebrating three remarkable American poets: Anne Bradstreet, Emily Dickinson, and Mary Oliver.

 

Under the title Women of Words and Wisdom, the public talk will be led by Dr Jo Russell and Sheila Longman, guiding audiences through three centuries of poetic insight, creativity and influence.

Running from 7.30 to 9pm, the session will blend biography, readings and reflection, offering an accessible introduction to the poets’ lives and the enduring power of their work.


Advance booking is essential. Tickets are £12 if booked by 16 March, or £15 thereafter. A small booking fee applies.
