Discover the meaning of the Roman Catholic Mass - public talk series

BOOK HERE NOW

Join Benedictine monk Fr John Seddon OSB for a powerful seven part series exploring the beauty, meaning and mystery of the Roman Catholic Mass, based on Bishop Robert Barron’s acclaimed teachings. Members of the public of all faiths and none are welcome.

Saturdays 10.30am–12.20pm
Assisi Room, St Augustine’s Abbey, Chilworth, Guildford GU4 8QR

27 June 2026 - A Privileged Encounter
25 July - Called out of the World
29 August - God Speaks our Story
26 September - Responding to God
31 October - Preparing for Sacrifice
21 November - The Real Presence Creates Communion
19 December - Final session - Eucharist: Sacred Meal, Sacrifice, Real Presence

Fr John will add his own references to how Mass is celebrated partly in Latin at St Augustine's Abbey, Chilworth, where we celebrate Roman Catholic Mass in the Ordinary Form, or 'Novus Ordo', not in the Extraordinary Form (i.e. not a Latin or Tridentine Mass). However, Mass is offered facing East on the altar used before the liturgical changes in 1960s. We sing the Introit, Alleluia, Offertory, Communion and Ordinary in Latin. The rest of the Mass is the vernacular, which is in English.

Free coffee, tea and biscuits in the Assisi Room every day of the talk from 10am.

Ticket price £12 per person per Saturday. A small booking fee applies.
Advance booking essential (owing to very limited space). Sorry - no tickets on the door.
